I'm the director of The Joyful Noise Gospel Choir, which started in Sept. 2003. I'm not a trained singer or conductor, but badly wanted to be singing this kind of music close to home again. In Sydney I sang with a fantastic group called 'The Honeybees'(then directed by the inimitable Tony Backhouse) and missed them terribly when I moved, so I decided to form a group up here. It was a steep learning curve for all of us in the early days, esp. as I felt completely unqualified to be telling anyone how or what to sing. I'm sure the group now would agree that I'm pretty much over this;) The current core group for The Joyful Noise are an excellent bunch of people, who instinctively blend vocally and socially, and who make my heart glad every week. We also have a number of members who come and go, depending on other committments, and we're always happy to have them swell our ranks when they can. Our aim remains the same - to "find a happy place" through communal song - and we continue to evolve.. I'm now trying my hand at writing for the group, and individual members are developing their voices as soloists and 'improvisers', which is absolutely wonderful! Onwards and upwards!
